This delightful confection has taken the world by storm, and itโ€™s not hard to see why. With its creamy texture and irresistible flavor, Dalgona Candy is a dessert that will melt in your mouth.

The Origin of Dalgona Candy

Originating in South Korea, Dalgona Candy is named after a popular Korean street candy called Dalgona. Traditionally, Dalgona candy is made by melting sugar and baking soda together, resulting in a light and airy treat that is both sweet and slightly tangy.

However, the Dalgona Candy we know today has taken a modern twist. It is made by whipping together equal parts of sugar, water, and corn syrup until it reaches a thick and creamy consistency. This mixture is then poured into molds and left to cool, resulting in beautiful, bite-sized candies that are perfect for any occasion.

The Art of Making Dalgona Candy

Making Dalgona Candy is an art form in itself. The process requires precision and patience to achieve the perfect texture and flavor. The key to success lies in the whipping technique. The mixture must be whipped vigorously until it becomes thick and fluffy, similar to whipped cream.

Once the mixture has reached the desired consistency, it is poured into molds and left to set. The result is a candy that is not only visually appealing but also incredibly satisfying to eat. The smooth texture and rich flavor make Dalgona Candy a true crowd-pleaser.

The Versatility of Dalgona Candy

One of the great things about Dalgona Candy is its versatility. While the traditional recipe calls for a simple sugar and corn syrup mixture, you can add your own twist to create unique flavors. From adding a hint of vanilla extract to incorporating different types of chocolate, the possibilities are endless.

Furthermore, Dalgona Candy can be customized to suit any occasion. Whether youโ€™re celebrating a birthday, hosting a dinner party, or simply want to indulge in a sweet treat, Dalgona Candy can be shaped and decorated to fit the theme.

  • 1/8 tsp baking soda

Instructions

  • Prepare a sheet tray by lining it with a silicone baking mat. Place an ice pop stick in the center of the tray and set it aside.
  • Place a 4-ounce ladle over low heat, keeping it about 2 inches above the flame. Add the sugar and stir it using chopsticks. Continuously swirl the sugar until it dissolves and turns a pale light yellow color. This should take around 2 minutes. The mixture should have a fragrant caramel smell and resemble diluted honey.
  • Stir in the baking soda and whisk vigorously for 5 seconds, still keeping the ladle 2 inches above the flame. Then, remove it from the heat. Continue whisking until the baking soda is completely dissolved and the sugar doubles in volume, becomes frothy, and turns a light caramel color. This should take about 10 seconds.
  • Pour the sugar mixture immediately onto the tip of the ice pop stick on the silicone mat. Use a rubber spatula to scrape the mixture down. Make sure to pour it in a round shape to ensure the candy is pressed evenly.
  • Quickly and lightly press down on the candy using a hotteok press. Press until the candy is about 3 1/2 inches in diameter. This should take around 3 to 5 seconds.
  • As the candy begins to harden, gently lift the hotteok press and immediately stamp it with a cookie cutter. Make sure not to press all
