  • 1 can (14 ounces) of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of cream or milk
  • 4 and a half cups of white sugar
  • Half a cup of chilled unsalted butter , cut into cubes
  • A dash of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)


  • Grease a 13x18-inch sheet pan or two 8x8-inch square pans generously with butter and set them aside.
  • In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine condensed milk, cream, sugar, salt, and butter. Stir them together.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil while stirring constantly.
  • Once the mixture boils, reduce the heat to low and continue cooking and stirring.
