These small, tender birds are packed with flavor and can be cooked to perfection in a slow cooker. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just want to treat yourself to a special meal, slow cooker Cornish hens are sure to satisfy.

The Magic of the Slow Cooker

The slow cooker is like a fairy godmother in the kitchen. It works its magic by slowly cooking food over a low temperature, allowing the flavors to meld together and the meat to become tender and juicy. With the slow cooker, you can set it and forget it, freeing up your time to do other things while your meal cooks to perfection.

Why Choose Cornish Hens?

Cornish hens are a great choice for a special meal because they are small and individual-sized, making them perfect for serving to guests. They are also incredibly tender and flavorful, with their small size allowing them to cook quickly and evenly. Plus, they make for an impressive presentation on the dinner table.

Preparing the Hens

Before cooking, it’s important to properly prepare the Cornish hens. Start by rinsing them under cold water and patting them dry with paper towels. Season them generously with your favorite herbs and spices, such as rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper. You can also stuff the cavity with aromatics like garlic or lemon for an extra burst of flavor.

Cooking the Hens

Now it’s time to let the slow cooker work its magic. Place the seasoned hens in the slow cooker and add some liquid, such as chicken broth or white wine, to keep them moist during cooking. Set the slow cooker to low heat and let the hens cook for about 4-6 hours, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

Serving Suggestions

Once the hens are cooked to perfection, it’s time to serve them up. You can serve them whole, or for an elegant touch, you can halve them and arrange them on a platter. Pair them with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes, and drizzle them with the flavorful juices from the slow cooker.
