Enter meatball mummies, a fun and creative twist on the classic meatball dish. These mummies might not give you nightmares, but they will definitely satisfy your taste buds.

Unwrapping the Mystery of Meatball Mummies

So, what exactly are meatball mummies? Imagine perfectly seasoned meatballs, wrapped in a delicate layer of golden-brown puff pastry, resembling the bandages of a mummy. These little bites of goodness are not only visually appealing but also pack a flavorful punch.

Just like traditional meatballs, the meatball mummies can be made using a variety of meats, such as beef, chicken, or turkey. Mix in some breadcrumbs, herbs, and spices to enhance the flavor, and you’re ready to go. The puff pastry adds a light and flaky texture, making each bite a delightful experience.

How to Bring Meatball Mummies to Life

Creating your very own meatball mummies is easier than you might think. First, prepare your favorite meatball mixture, shaping them into small, bite-sized balls. Next, carefully wrap each meatball in a strip of puff pastry, leaving a small opening at the top to resemble the mummy’s face. Bake them in the oven until the pastry turns a beautiful golden brown.

Once your meatball mummies are ready, you can have some fun with the presentation. Use edible eyes or small pieces of cheese to add eyes to each mummy’s face. Serve them with a side of marinara sauce for dipping, and watch as your guests marvel at the creative twist on a classic dish.

Spooktacular Variations to Try

While the traditional meatball mummies are a hit, don’t be afraid to get creative and add your own spooky flair. Here are a few variations you can try:

Monster Mash Meatball Mummies

Spiderweb Spinach Meatball Mummies

Add a healthy twist to your meatball mummies by incorporating spinach into the meat mixture. The green color will make them look like they were spun by a mischievous spider.

Ingredients

  • Nonstick cooking spray (for the baking sheets)
  • 1 pound of ground beef (85 percent lean)
  • 4 ounces of spicy Italian sausage , with casings removed
  • 1/2 cup of dried breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup of finely grated Parmesan cheese (extra for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons of whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried chile flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 medium-sized beaten egg
  • One 17.3-ounce box of thawed frozen puff pastry sheets
  • Ketchup and mustard (for the eyes)

Instructions

  • Prepare two baking sheets by spraying them with nonstick spray.
  • In a large bowl, combine the beef, sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, milk, oregano, chile flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well using your hands.
  • Add the oil and egg to the mixture and continue mixing with your hands until all ingredients are fully combined.
