A: Yes, you can prepare the meatballs in advance and refrigerate them until you’re ready to cook. Just remember to bring them to room temperature before frying for the best results.

Q: Can I bake the meatballs instead of frying them?

A: Definitely! If you prefer a healthier alternative, you can bake the meatballs in the oven until they are cooked through and golden brown.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of white bread , torn into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 small onion , quartered
  • 4 teaspoons of dried mint
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Ground black pepper to taste
  • ½ pound of ground beef
  • ½ pound of ground lamb
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup of all-purpose flour for dredging
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, dampen the bread pieces by mixing them with the milk. Set aside.
  • Use a food processor to finely chop the garlic. Then add the onion, mint, salt, and pepper to the processor and blend until the onion is finely chopped.
  • Combine the onion mixture with the moist bread in the bowl. Add the beef, lamb, and eggs, and thoroughly blend everything together using your hands.
  • Shape the mixture into balls, making each one measure around 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.
  • Place the flour in a shallow pan, and coat the meatballs by rolling them in the flour. Remove any excess flour by shaking them gently. Then place the meatballs on a plate or baking sheet, pressing them slightly to prevent rolling.
  • In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium heat. Add 8 to 10 meatballs at a time and cook for approximately 10 minutes, or until they are nicely browned on the outside and no longer pink in the center.
  • Drain the cooked meatballs on a plate lined with paper towels. Repeat this process with the remaining meatballs.
