It is Valentineโs Day and you know that restaurants are likely to be full by now. If you have not made reservations and are having second thoughts about waiting for a long queue just to have a special dinner, why not just stay at home? Cook and set the table to a wonderful setting and you will enjoy your food just as much as you would in a restaurant.
The main thing to remember when setting a table for multiple courses is to eat from the outside, in. it means that the silverware that you will use for the first course should be farthest from the plate. The silverware that you will be using for the last course should be the one closest to the plate.
Prepare silverware for the soup, salad, fish, meat and dessert. That would mean having to wash a lot of silverware but that should be fine. If you donโt have that much, then just make do of what you have. Of course your Valentine date will not be upset about it since he or she already knows what utensils you have at home.
You can always turn to books and the internet for some crash course on the proper way to set the table. Place the utensils properly and make sure that you have a cute centerpiece. The centerpiece could be a flower that you neatly placed in a vase. The simpler it is, the more beautiful it would look. Do not opt for very big arrangements for these would take a lot of space in the table.
Use a pretty table cloth. You can opt for a simple solid color or use something fancier. The best thing to consider is the length. The table-length ones always look classier.
Properly fold the napkins. This requires quite a skill but you will be able to pull through. This great addition to the setting is not simply going to impress your date, it will spare you a lot of trouble especially if you are eating with a steak or other food with sauce that could spill on your clothes.
