  • 2 cups potatoes , peeled and cut into cubes
  • 2 stalks celery , diced
  • 1 large carrot , sliced
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups ham , fully cooked and cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons green bell pepper , chopped
  • 2 teaspoons onion , chopped
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk , or more if needed
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese , shredded
  • ½ cup dry bread crumbs


  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large pot, combine the potatoes, celery, and carrot. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for approximately 20 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
