  • 2 egg yolks
  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons of ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 6 divided egg whites
  • 15 cups of sifted confectioners' sugar , divided
  • 1 cup of assorted candies , or as needed


  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter and sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Stir in the molasses and egg yolks.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cloves, ginger, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
