  • 1/2 cup of freshly picked raspberries
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated white sugar
  • 1 package (8.4 ounces) of strawberry-lemon cake mix with pink lemonade glaze mix (e.g. , Duncan Hines® Strawberry Lemon Kiss)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 tablespoons of softened butter
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • Optional: a few drops of red food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons of red candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (e.g. , M&M's®)

  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  • In a small bowl, combine the raspberries and sugar. Mash them slightly and stir until well combined.
  • In a large bowl, blend the cake mix, egg, water, and butter using an electric mixer on low speed. Scrape the sides of the bowl. Beat at medium-high speed until smooth, approximately 3 minutes.
  • Pour half of the batter into a heart-shaped baking pan.
  • Strain the raspberries through a wire-mesh strainer, using the back of a spoon to push out as much excess moisture as possible. Pour the strained raspberries over the batter in the pan, spreading them out to the edges.
  • Pour the remaining cake batter on top and spread it to cover the entire raspberry layer.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 37 to 39 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Run a table knife around the edges to loosen it. Carefully invert the cake onto a serving plate or cooling rack. Let it cool completely for at least 20 minutes.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, mix the glaze mix and milk until well blended. Heat it in the microwave for approximately 40 seconds, or until hot and thickened. Add food coloring and mix until smooth. Immediately pour the warm
